Heartbreaking Outcome: Queens Resident's Courageous Stand Against Car Thieves

In Queens, New York, a man lost his life while attempting to thwart a car theft, as per reports from CBS News, ABC News, and PIX11 News.

The 43-year-old victim was discovered by authorities after an emergency call reported a car hitting a man near 85th Street and 25th Avenue in East Elmhurst around 3:30 p.m., according to PIX11 News.

The man, at the intersection, noticed two suspects breaking into his white Toyota Highlander, intending to steal something inside, according to police statements. A witness alerted the car owner to the break-in, prompting him to confront the suspects and approach his car. The alleged thieves fled, and as they left in a white BMW, the victim pursued them to prevent their escape.

Attempting to stop the suspects, the victim climbed onto the side of the moving BMW but was thrown off and struck by a passing Cadillac Escalade, reported ABC News. Left on the street, the victim, bleeding, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, as noted by CBS News.

Hugo Dutan, the owner of the Cadillac Escalade, recounted the victim hitting his car, stating, "The head hit the front wheel, the right-hand side tire," according to PIX11.

Surveillance footage captured the incident, showing bystanders rushing to help the victim after the white BMW sped away. Kevin Gonzalez, one of the bystanders, described how the victim attempted to stop the thieves, saying, "They broke the window of the car and tried to take something from it. He noticed it was his car, came and basically tried to stop it, latched onto the car, and it happened quickly…a couple of us tried to chase down the car, but they sped off."

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation into the incident, along with the search for the two suspects, is ongoing.
