Innocence Stolen: Woman Behind Bars for Causing Permanent Head Trauma to 2-Year-Old

McKinley Slone Hernandez, 25, was arrested in Lakewood, Colorado, for allegedly abusing a 2-year-old boy so severely that he required surgery to remove part of his skull.

The boy's mother, Stefanie Reichert, says Hernandez caused the injuries in September, and her son is still recovering.

Hernandez was initially issued a $1,000 bond for child abuse, but that amount was later increased to $100,000.

She is currently in custody.

Reichert told Denver NBC affiliate KUSA that Giovanni is showing signs of ongoing trauma from the abuse. He is afraid of strangers, including nurses and doctors, and he doesn't like to be touched.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Giovanni's family with his medical expenses. As of Friday, the page has raised over $20,000.
