Man, Angelo Valentino Mantych, Chokes Girlfriend To Death on Amtrak Train, Then Evades Capture For 7 Years, Claim Authorities

Initial findings from the autopsy of Marina Placensia, 28, left investigators puzzled about the circumstances surrounding her death. However, the subsequent discovery of her extensive injuries and a troubling history of abuse led to murder charges being filed against her boyfriend, Angelo Valentino Mantych, 41. Authorities concluded that Mantych had strangled her to death.

According to official documents and a press release from the Denver District Attorney's Office in Colorado, the couple, along with their four children, were in the process of relocating from Racine, Wisconsin, in late August 2016.

Upon their arrival at Denver Union Station, Placensia was found unresponsive. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead. Mantych exhibited visible distress, with reports stating that he appeared upset, vomited multiple times, and showed signs of emotional turmoil.

While no witnesses reported any altercations between the couple during their train journey, numerous bruises were found on Placensia's body, hinting at possible physical assault or struggle.

Mantych attempted to explain these injuries as accidental mishaps during the moving process, citing instances where doors had allegedly struck her and a scratch from their two-year-old daughter.

A detailed examination during the autopsy uncovered a series of injuries, including bruises on her face, abdomen, and limbs, along with multiple fractured ribs. Although the exact cause of her death remained unclear initially, subsequent investigations and testimonies revealed a disturbing pattern of consistent abuse inflicted by Mantych upon Placensia and her children.

Accounts from concerned neighbors and witnesses painted a disturbing picture of a tumultuous relationship marked by frequent physical and verbal abuse directed at Placensia and her children.

Reports from Racine County Social Services highlighted concerning incidents related to the well-being of the children, further emphasizing the gravity of the situation. Additionally, allegations of molestation and menacing threats suggested a long history of abusive behavior by Mantych.

A subsequent forensic examination definitively concluded that Placensia died as a result of suffocation, indicating deliberate and forceful obstruction of her nose and mouth. This revelation left no doubt that her death was a result of deliberate homicide, exposing the dark reality of the abuse she had endured at the hands of Mantych.
