Man, Melvin Williams, Denied Bond in Subway Employee Murder Over Mayonnaise Dispute

A man accused of fatally shooting a Subway employee and injuring another over a disagreement about mayonnaise on his sandwich remains behind bars while awaiting trial.

Melvin Williams, 45, is charged with murder, aggravated assault, cruelty to children, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The incident occurred in June 2022 at a Subway restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. Williams allegedly became enraged after arguing with the employee, Brittany Macon, 26, about the amount of mayonnaise on his sandwich.

He is accused of shooting and killing Macon and injuring her coworker, Jada Statum, 24. Statum's 5-year-old son was also present in the restaurant and witnessed the shooting.

Williams was out on bond on unrelated charges at the time of the incident. He has not yet been scheduled for trial.

Macon's family remembered her as a "caring and courageous" person. They called for more attention to mental health issues in the Black community.
