A Michigan man has entered guilty pleas for multiple charges related to the 2021 killing of a 17-year-old girl, as court records indicate.
Joshua Wirgau, aged 35, admitted to his involvement in the disinterment and mutilation of a deceased body, felony accessory after the fact, and involuntary manslaughter. These charges are linked to the tragic events surrounding the 2021 deaths of Brynn Bills and Abby Hill.
Reports from various sources, including FOX 2, The Detroit News, and UpNorthLive, suggest that Wirgau, along with Brad Srebnik, were allegedly responsible for the disappearances of Bills and Hill in 2021. It's worth noting that court records do not provide information about whether Srebnik has entered pleas for the charges against him.
Authorities claim that Srebnik killed Bills after she was picked up by Hill in August 2021. Subsequently, Wirgau was accused of burying Bills' body on his property located in Alpena, Michigan.
The tragic events continued when Hill was shot and killed the following month. Authorities allege that Srebnik and Wirgau were responsible for her death, purportedly to prevent her from disclosing information related to Bills' demise.
Initially charged with first-degree murder in Hill's case, Wirgau ultimately pleaded guilty to lesser charges and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors during Srebnik's impending trial, scheduled to commence in January.
Wirgau could potentially face a prison sentence ranging from 15 to 30 years, with his sentencing scheduled for February, as per court records.
The Michigan Attorney General's Office has not yet provided a response to inquiries from PEOPLE.
State Attorney General Dana Nessel, in a statement shared by The News, stated that Wirgau's guilty plea will bolster the state's case against Srebnik, affirming their commitment to pursuing justice for the victims and the community.
Srebnik faces two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Bills and Hill, alongside charges of disinterment and mutilation of a deceased body, similar to those brought against Wirgau. Additionally, Srebnik is confronted with two felony weapons charges, as per court records.
