Nebraska Father, Will McDonald, Who Mistakenly Shot His Son on Thanksgiving, Actually Thought He Was Shooting a Car Thief


In a heartbreaking incident that has left the community reeling, a Nebraska man mistakenly shot and killed his 10-year-old son on Thanksgiving night. According to police, the man, identified as 47-year-old Will McDonald, may have mistaken his son for a car thief.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving night when McDonald fired a shot towards a figure approaching his house. Upon discovering that the figure was his son, Kendrick McDonald, he rushed him to the hospital, where Kendrick tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Will McDonald was arrested and charged with criminal homicide, use of a weapon-gun, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He is currently being held at the Douglas County Jail on a $750,000 bond.

Kendrick's maternal uncle described him as a "funny and active" child who "loved to be silly and make people laugh." He was also a loving brother to his three siblings and enjoyed spending time with his family.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of gun violence and the importance of gun safety. It also highlights the need for mental health support and resources to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
