Recent Surge of Violent Attacks Targets Subway Commuters in New York City

In recent incidents within the city's subway system, three commuters were assaulted in separate attacks, with one victim suffering a brain injury as his head struck a departing train during the assault, according to authorities.

One of the incidents involved a 29-year-old man who was assaulted by a stranger during an argument at the southbound Q train station at Church Avenue in Flatbush. The victim was punched, fell, and hit his head against a departing Q train. He was subsequently hospitalized for a brain bleed and was reported to be in stable condition.

The assailant, wearing a blue hoodie featuring characters from the animated show "Rick and Morty," fled the scene.

He was described as approximately 6 feet tall with a dark complexion, wearing a black ski mask, blue jeans, and white sneakers. In a separate case, another 29-year-old man was attacked on the southbound F train platform at Queens Plaza after a chance encounter with a stranger.

The assailant punched the victim in the face and fled. The injured man was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center for eye bruising.

Additionally, a 17-year-old boy was repeatedly punched at the Avenue P subway station in Gravesend during an altercation with a stranger. The assailant began assaulting the teen by punching him in the face.

The victim was later taken to Maimonides Medical Center and reported to be in stable condition. The suspect in this case, who fled on foot, appeared significantly older than the teenager and was captured on surveillance wearing a black jacket over a gray hoodie, jeans, a black baseball cap, and carrying a tote bag.
