Reckless Endangerment Charges for Massachusetts Mother and Aunt in Child Burn Case

In Seekonk, Massachusetts, two women, identified as Guilene Gerome, 38, the child's mother, and Franzceska Gerome, 44, her aunt, are now confronting charges of reckless endangerment following an incident last month. The incident involved a 4-year-old girl who suffered severe second and third-degree burns on significant parts of her body. This information comes from the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

On October 9 at 12 p.m., authorities responded to a residence on Oak Hill Avenue, discovering the young girl in critical condition due to life-threatening burns sustained around 17 hours earlier. District Attorney Thomas Quinn revealed that the child's condition upon arriving at Hasbro Children’s Hospital was critical, with her body in shock from the extensive burns, posing a risk of cardiac arrest.

Over a month later, the child remains hospitalized, though her condition has stabilized. The investigation, involving interviews with both women and medical professionals, led to the submission of arrest warrants on Thursday. Seekonk police arrested the mother and aunt on Saturday night, with charges including reckless endangerment of a child and permitting substantial injury to a child. The aunt is additionally charged with assault and battery on a child with substantial injury.

While details about the incident's cause were not disclosed in Quinn's statement, further information will be withheld until the women's arraignment on Monday. This is an ongoing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
