In the heart of downtown Atlanta, tragedy struck as 25-year-old Jason Ogbomoh, a beloved teacher at Marietta Middle School, lost his life in a fatal shooting.
The news, conveyed by Marietta Middle School Principal Diona Brown in a Sunday night email to parents, left the community "heartbroken." Brown reflected on Ogbomoh's profound impact, emphasizing his passion for teaching and unwavering commitment to students.
According to Atlanta police, the incident unfolded around 3:04 a.m. on Peachtree Street SW when officers responded to reports of a person shot.
Ogbomoh, found with multiple gunshot wounds, was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The shooter fled the scene before the arrival of law enforcement, initiating an ongoing investigation.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Jason Ogbomoh, who had dedicated two years to teaching computer science at MMS. Beyond the classroom, Ogbomoh was revered not just as a teacher but also as a role model and a source of inspiration.
Principal Brown fondly remembered his special ability to connect with students and his contagious enthusiasm for teaching, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A 2020 graduate from the University of Georgia with a major in biology and a concentration in neuroscience, Ogbomoh was concurrently pursuing a master's degree in computer science from Georgia State University.
