In a shocking incident on Tuesday, a landlord, identified as David Daniel, 54, was arrested and charged with the murder of three individuals found stabbed to death in a Queens home.
The New York City Police Department's chief of detectives, Joseph Kenny, revealed that Daniel turned himself in at a police station in the morning and confessed to the crime. According to Daniel, two of the victims were tenants who hadn't paid rent, while the third victim was his girlfriend.
Police officers responded to the St. Albans neighborhood home just after 7 a.m., discovering two victims in a basement bedroom and the third in an upstairs bedroom, along with a knife at the scene. Daniel, described as "very matter-of-fact" when approaching officers, has been charged with murder and is currently in custody.
The light-green house where the tragic incident occurred is situated on a dead-end street in a peaceful neighborhood of single and multifamily homes. Throughout the afternoon, neighbors kept their blinds closed as officials in protective suits removed body bags from the home.
Alfred Felder, 32, a resident in the neighborhood, expressed shock over the stabbings, mentioning that he hadn't observed anything unusual on Monday night or early Tuesday morning.
He emphasized the pain of witnessing such an event in close proximity and hoped it was an isolated incident, though he acknowledged the unsettling nature of the occurrence.
Nelimi Roopnarine, 42, another nearby resident, recalled hearing sirens on Tuesday morning and described the experience as "very shocking." Clarivel Jolly, 53, who lived across the street for two decades, shared that Daniel, the accused landlord, occasionally cut his neighbors' grass and always greeted them.
The revelation of the killings came as a shock to Jolly, who characterized the tenants as pleasant and mentioned never hearing arguments from the home.
