Suffolk County Correction Officer, Jason Middleton Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Inmate

A Suffolk County, New York correctional officer has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting an inmate. The alleged assault took place between April 26th and September 29th, 2023, while the officer was working at a correctional facility in Riverhead, New York.

The officer, identified as 35-year-old Jason Middleton of Central Islip, New York, is accused of taking an inmate into a utility walkway between jail cells that he knew was a blind spot for security cameras.

After taking the inmate into the walkway, Middleton allegedly closed the door and demanded that the inmate perform oral sex. The inmate complied out of fear of further harm.

In addition to the sexual assault, Middleton is also accused of threatening the inmate with contraband. He allegedly told the inmate that if he ever disobeyed him, he would place contraband in the inmate's cell. If the contraband were to be found, it would likely result in additional charges being filed against the victim.

Middleton was arrested by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney's Public Corruption Squad and is expected to be arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court. Because the offenses are not bail-eligible, Middleton will likely be placed on supervised release.

Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. expressed his shock and disgust at Middleton's alleged actions. He said that the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office has absolutely no tolerance for such behavior and that it is not a reflection of the hard-working men and women who serve the department.
