Thanksgiving Murder: Suspect, Jonathan Dimick Sr Ends Life After Brutal Crime Where He Dismembered his Victim
On Thanksgiving Day, Florida deputies were called to a house in Inverness after receiving a report of a possible murder.
When they arrived, they made a shocking discovery: the suspect, Jonathan Dimick Sr., 75, had fatally shot himself in the abdomen after dismembering his victim, James Banks, 67.
Deputies found Banks' body stuffed in the trunk of his own car. They also found a large butcher-style knife, blood, and drag marks in the backyard.
Dimick was taken to the hospital by helicopter, but he died from his injuries. Investigators have not yet released a motive for the crime.
"The scene our deputies responded to was absolutely shocking," said Sheriff Mike Prendergast. "It is rare that a case this horrific occurs in Citrus County, but this is what we prepare for."
He added that he is grateful to the caller who reported the crime, saying that their courage allowed investigators to bring justice for Banks' family.
