The alleged murderer of Tupac Shakur, Duane Keith 'Keffe D' Davis, is scheduled to appear in court on June 3, 2024, for the 1996 killing of the renowned American rapper.
At 60 years of age, Duane Keith 'Keffe D' Davis, a former leader of a Southern California street gang, was arrested in September for his alleged involvement in orchestrating the Las Vegas drive-by shooting that claimed Tupac Shakur's life 27 years ago.
Remarkably, Davis is the sole survivor from the car that was responsible for firing the fatal shot at Shakur. He stands as the lone individual to be charged with a crime connected to the murder, with his trial slated for June 3, 2024.
Describing himself as a 'gang member,' Davis entered a not-guilty plea in a Las Vegas courtroom on November 2, following several delays and uncertainties regarding his legal representation.
Prosecutors have disclosed that they do not intend to pursue the death penalty for Davis in connection with his alleged crime. Prior to entering his plea, Davis, dressed in dark-blue jail attire, responded to a brief series of questions in court. He conveyed that he had attended 'a year in college,' was not under the influence of any substances, medications, or alcohol, and expressed his understanding of the murder charge.
Originally hailing from Compton, California, Davis was arrested on September 29 outside a suburban Henderson residence, where Las Vegas police executed a search warrant on July 17, reigniting interest in one of hip-hop music's most enduring mysteries.
Currently incarcerated without bail, Davis did not testify before the grand jury that indicted him, and he declined to speak with The Associated Press from his jail confinement.
According to the indictment, Davis is alleged to have procured and provided a firearm to an individual seated in the back of a Cadillac. This weapon was reportedly used in the car-to-car gunfire incident that fatally wounded Shakur and also injured rap music mogul Marion 'Suge' Knight at an intersection just off the Las Vegas Strip.
Suge Knight, now 58, is serving a 28-year prison sentence in California for his involvement in the 2015 killing of a Compton businessman. Knight has yet to respond to messages conveyed through his attorneys regarding Davis' arrest.
