Chicago Mother, Maria Roque Fatally Shot in Front of Children Hours Before Protection Order Extension Against Ex-Partner
In the West Side neighborhood of Chicago, tragedy struck when Maria Roque, a 34-year-old mother, was fatally shot outside her home in the early hours of a Wednesday morning. The incident unfolded just as a court had extended a protection order against her ex-boyfriend, escalating concerns around longstanding domestic violence.
Roque's family, notably her twin brother Andres, expressed their belief that her murder was connected to the history of domestic abuse. Despite the warrant issued against her ex-boyfriend for violating the protection order on the same day as her death, no arrests have been made as of Monday.
Court documents obtained by Law&Crime revealed a series of protection order extensions from November until December, the last being extended until January 2024, tragically days after Roque's passing.
Andres, in an emotional interview with WBBM, described the heartbreaking scene of his sister's violent death, lamenting the moment when her son, in tears, expressed, "I tried to save her." The uncle recounted the harrowing experience of the children witnessing their mother's shooting, with one attempting CPR in a futile attempt to revive her.
Expressing his anguish to WLS, Andres shared the pain of losing a sister who was known for her kindness and willingness to help others. He described her as "always lovely," a sentiment echoed by many who knew her.
