Confession and Consequence: Woman Who Claimed Being 'Too Pretty' To Be Arrested, Receives Sentence for Killing Her Mother

A 29-year-old woman from Las Vegas, Hend Bustami, has been sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison after admitting to fatally stabbing her 61-year-old mother, Afaf Hussanen. Bustami pleaded “guilty but mentally ill” to the charge of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon earlier this year, as reported by local stations like KLAS-TV, KSNV-TV, and KTNV-TV.

Covered in blood, Bustami was apprehended on a California highway hours after the tragic incident. During her grand jury hearing, prosecutors played a distressing audio recording of her 911 call admitting, "I think I killed my mommy."

Living together at the time, Bustami and her mother reportedly had a violent confrontation stemming from an argument over cigarettes, leading to the fatal incident.

Prior to the murder, Bustami gained attention when she was arrested at Harry Reid International Airport for skipping out on paying a restaurant bill. Reports from local KSNV mentioned Bustami's intoxicated behavior, where she claimed she was too “pretty” to be arrested and accused officers of inappropriate behavior.

Bustami also faced several other felony convictions, including burglary, invasion of a home, possession of controlled substances with intent to sell, and gaming crimes, as disclosed by KLAS-TV.

She has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison and is eligible for parole in 2037. Additionally, she will have access to mental health treatments and programs while incarcerated, according to reports from KTNV.
