Dollar General Sued for Negligence in Racially Motivated Shooting that Killed Three

Three families are suing the landlord, operator, and security contractor of a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, where their loved ones were killed in a racially motivated shooting. They are also suing the parents of the shooter.

The lawsuit alleges that the store failed to provide adequate security, which allowed the shooter to open fire on the victims. Palmeter, 21, killed himself after the shooting.

The lawsuit states that Palmeter targeted the store because it was located in a high-crime area and lacked security measures. He was armed with a Glock handgun and an AR-15 marked with swastikas.

After the shooting, law enforcement found several manifestos that "detailed the shooter’s disgusting ideology of hate," Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said in a press conference.

The lawsuit also claims that Palmeter's parents, Stephen and Maryann Palmeter, should have taken steps to prevent him from harming others.

They knew that Palmeter "struggled with mental health issues" and "owed a duty of care to the general public."

The Dollar General and the other defendants have not responded to requests for comment.
