Mom, Sophia Simmons Apprehended After Her Daughter's Body Was Discovered in a Dumpster on Christmas Eve

A woman from Arizona, Sophia Simmons, 38, faces serious charges, including first-degree murder, after allegedly killing her daughter and disposing of the body in a large trash can on Christmas Eve, as reported by Phoenix police.

Responding to a call on December 24, Phoenix police found the body of a young child, aged between five and seven, inside a plastic storage tote in a dumpster. The child had various injuries on her legs, arms, and torso, some fresh and others in different stages of healing, including scars from previous injuries.

A tipster from New York contacted the police the next day, claiming that Simmons confessed to beating her child and losing control. Simmons allegedly admitted to leaving the child alone after the beating, returning to find her unresponsive. Despite attempting CPR, she claimed she couldn't revive her daughter and stayed with the body for five days before disposing of it in a dumpster.

Authorities observed Simmons' townhouse, noticing signs of attempted cleaning, with the home nearly empty and furniture rearranged. Simmons was eventually apprehended in Tonopah, Arizona, and is being held on a $1 million bond. Her court appearance is scheduled for January 2, and it's uncertain if she has legal representation at this time.
