Texas Rampage: Suspect, Shane James in Custody After 6 Dead, 3 Injured in Austin and San Antonio

Texas authorities are piecing together the details of a horrific shooting rampage that left six people dead and three others injured, including two police officers. The suspect, 34-year-old Shane James, is in custody and facing multiple charges, including capital murder.

Here's what we know about the tragic events:

Tuesday morning, James allegedly shot an Austin Independent School District police officer in the parking lot of Northeast Early College High School. The officer, who was thankfully released from the hospital, was shot in the leg during a routine patrol.

Around noon, authorities found two people dead at a home in Austin, approximately 18 miles from the school shooting scene.

Later that afternoon, James allegedly shot a bicyclist in West Slaughter Lane. The victim is expected to survive.

The rampage continued around 6:50 p.m. when James allegedly shot at an officer responding to a burglary call. The officer was struck multiple times but is currently in stable condition. James then led police on a chase before crashing his car and being apprehended.

Detectives later linked the four Austin shooting scenes to James. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar confirmed that James is also the suspect in the deaths of two people found in a home near San Antonio.

Authorities believe James killed the two victims in San Antonio before driving to Austin and embarking on his deadly spree. None of the victims have been publicly identified.

James served as a U.S. Army infantry officer from 2013 to 2015. He is currently being held without bond as the investigation continues.

The motive for the shootings remains unclear. Authorities are still working to determine the connections between James and the victims.

This tragedy has deeply impacted the communities of Austin and San Antonio. We offer our condolences to the families and friends of the victims during this difficult time.
