A North Carolina community is reeling after a young girl was found stabbed to death in her own backyard, allegedly by her older sister. Kaneijah Zyir Bradley, 22, faces murder charges after the body of her 10-year-old sibling was discovered on Monday night.
Deputies received a missing child report around 10:30 p.m. and arrived to find the heartbreaking scene. The 10-year-old, believed to have been stabbed inside the house, was transported outside before succumbing to her injuries.
"The motive remains unclear and under investigation," stated the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, emphasizing the ongoing probe.
Adding to the tragedy, Bradley is no stranger to legal troubles. WRAL reports two separate 2023 arrests: one for assault with a deadly weapon and car theft, and another for assaulting a government official and resisting arrest. Court dates for these charges are pending.
Sheriff Tyree Davis expressed condolences in a press release, saying, "This is a deep shock to our community. Our hearts and prayers are with the family."
Halifax County Sheriff's Office Capt. Scott Hall told ABC11, "It's heartbreaking when a child's life is cut short. There's nothing harder for first responders than arriving at a scene like this."
Neighbor Bernard Day, quoted by WRAL, shared the community's grief and disbelief. "Nothing like this has ever happened here," he said. "They are all in our prayers. There's nothing we can do but ask God to help them through this."
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Lt. R. Somogyi of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office at (252) 583-8201.
