Innocent Uber Driver Wrongfully Arrested, Almost Pays Child Support Due to Identity Theft

Yaw Mintah Afari, a 46-year-old man from Cincinnati, Ohio, is facing serious charges after authorities say he stole the identity of his former neighbor for over two decades. This shocking crime news has left the real victim reeling and raises concerns about identity security.

Afari's alleged scheme began around 2001 when he assumed the identity of "A.D.," a man he knew from their Virginia hometown. Using A.D.'s name and birthdate, Afari racked up a trail of trouble across multiple states.

He was arrested for fraud in Georgia in 2007, pleaded guilty to theft charges in 2009, and even applied for replacement Social Security cards and a passport under A.D.'s name while serving prison time.

The charade continued after Afari's release in 2012. He reportedly used A.D.'s identity for driving infractions, marriage, and even obtaining another Social Security card in 2021.

However, Afari's web of lies unraveled when he applied for a passport in 2022. The real A.D., having recently obtained his own passport, raised the alarm, leading to Afari's arrest.

Afari is currently locked up in Butler County Jail facing charges of false statements, passport fraud, and aggravated identity theft. The real A.D., whose life was turned upside down by Afari's actions, is left to grapple with the consequences of this crime news.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting your personal information. It's crucial to be vigilant about identity theft and report any suspicious activity immediately.
