Gerrard Martin: Beloved Toronto Chef Dies in Alleged Domestic Violence Incident Involving His Fiancé

A well-known chef named Gerrard Martin, 60, from Toronto, sadly passed away in the hospital on Sunday. He was injured in an attack by his 35-year-old fiancée, Deeanna Charrion, several weeks ago

Some neighbors of the couple described them as friendly and generous, while others mentioned occasional loud arguments.

Charrion has been charged with second-degree murder for the assault and Martin's death.

Martin was a beloved figure in the Danforth area, often participating in the local Taste of the Danforth festival. He was known for his kindness, love of conversation, and passion for sports and gardening. Social media posts suggest they were engaged for at least two years.

On the day of the assault, police responded to a call for help at their apartment.

They described the incident as a domestic situation where a "weapon of opportunity" was used. At a local bar Martin frequented, staff described them as friendly, with Martin often bringing treats and Charrion paying the bills.

None of the neighbors knew of Martin's passing or Charrion's charges before speaking to the reporter.

Charrion remains in custody and will appear in court again in March.
