Oklahoma Husband Convicted in Wife's Murder, Mistress Admits to Burning Body

A shocking local crime story unfolded in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, as jurors convicted Dayan Banks, 47, for the murder of his estranged wife, Tamera Lynn Ellison Banks, 43. The case, reminiscent of true crime documentaries, involved a twisted plot and disturbing details, including body burning.

The verdict, announced by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday, recommended life in prison without parole for Banks, along with an additional seven years for desecration of the victim's remains. His mistress, Lauren Ann Jackson, 35, is facing federal charges for her role in the gruesome act.

According to authorities, Banks murdered Tamera on November 15, 2021, just before a scheduled court hearing regarding a protective order she had placed against him. This act of domestic violence escalated to a chilling new level when Jackson allegedly assisted in burning Tamera's body at a rural property.

Jackson's plea agreement, obtained by Law&Crime, confirms her involvement in the desecration. The document states that she helped "burn the body of T.B., a non-Indian whom D.B. had murdered earlier in the day." The agreement details the use of a metal trough and shovel to dispose of the remains. Her sentencing is yet to be determined.

Prior to the murder, Tamera had reported Dayan to authorities for threatening her with a gun and physical violence. She obtained a protective order and relocated to Texas, but tragically returned to Oklahoma to gather belongings and attend the court hearing, ultimately leading to her death.
