Man, Travion Thompson Pleads Guilty to Dumping Girlfriend’s Child in Storm Drain

Back in 2020, Travion Thompson made a tearful statement to reporters when his girlfriend’s little girl, Maliyah Bass, was found dead in a nearby bayou. He spoke of his love for the 2-year-old, defending himself and his girlfriend against criticism on social media.

Fast forward more than three years, the 25-year-old, also known as Trevion Sanders, stood in a Texas courtroom and admitted to dumping Maliyah in a storm drain, leading to her discovery in Brays Bayou. He received a 40-year prison sentence for tampering with evidence and hurting a child, along with another charge for robbery with a weapon.

According to Harris County Public Affairs Officer John Donnelly, Thompson was in court for a robbery case when authorities used the death case to argue he broke his probation. Maliyah’s mother, Sahara Ervin, 24, also pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and harming a child. In exchange for her testimony against Thompson, she was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Lead prosecutor Lacy Johnson expressed relief at the resolution, avoiding a trial and ensuring Thompson's lengthy prison term. Thompson confessed to disposing of Maliyah’s body in a storm drain, sealing his fate.

Maliyah was found in Brays Bayou a day after Ervin and Thompson reported her missing. Initially, they claimed she vanished from a playground while they were cooking inside. Thompson later accused Ervin of abusing Maliyah, leading to her death. However, authorities only know Maliyah was hurt; her caretakers admitted to hiding her body.
