Tennessee Woman, Tina Vaughn, Arrested for Allegedly Burning Elderly Man in Her Care

A caregiver in Tennessee is facing serious charges after allegedly throwing boiling water on an elderly man with disabilities in her care.

The man suffered burns on his face, neck, and back.

Tina Vaughn, 42, was arrested on Monday on charges of hurting a vulnerable adult and simple assault.

According to court documents, police were called to the Regional One Burn Center in Memphis on January 24th, 2024.

The victim, who is deaf and has intellectual disabilities, told police that he was in the kitchen boiling water for noodles when Vaughn got upset with him and told him to go to the living room.

He said that while he was sitting on the couch, Vaughn threw the boiling water on him, causing burns.

Police believe Vaughn got mad because the man wouldn't go to sleep.

The victim said he yelled and ran out of the apartment after being burned.

According to police, Vaughn did not call for help after throwing the water.

Instead, she called her supervisor.

The victim returned home later that night, and Vaughn called an ambulance the next day to take him to the burn center.

The victim was able to identify Vaughn in a lineup as the person who threw the water on him.

Police also found inconsistencies in Vaughn's story.

She initially told medical staff that the victim tripped and burned himself, but the victim gave a different account.

Vaughn's husband claims his wife loves her job as a caregiver and has never had any problems before.

He says she did nothing wrong.

Vaughn was released on bond on Tuesday and is scheduled to be back in court on Thursday. It is not clear if she has a lawyer yet.
