A Washington state man, Chae Kyong An (54), received a hefty sentence on Monday for a horrific crime he committed in October 2022.
An pleaded guilty to attempted murder in the second degree in March and will now face over 13 years behind bars, followed by three years of community supervision.
The sentence comes after his estranged wife miraculously escaped a terrifying ordeal.
According to authorities, An's wife was subjected to a brutal attack.
She was reportedly beaten, stabbed, and bound with duct tape before being buried alive in a wooded area.
Court documents, though unspecified, detail the harrowing experience.
The woman, displaying incredible courage, managed to call 911 using her Apple Watch during the attack.
Following her horrifying burial, the woman endured 12 agonizing hours trapped in the makeshift grave.
She eventually freed herself from the bindings and bravely ran through the woods, seeking help.
A little after midnight, she reached a home in Olympia and pounded on the door, pleading for assistance.
Lacey police confirmed that the woman told residents about An's attempt to kill her.
She explained how he abducted her from their home and took her to the secluded area before burying her.

In court on Monday, the woman bravely shared more details about the traumatic incident.
She recounted pleading with An to spare her life and consider their children, but her pleas reportedly fell on deaf ears.
According to a statement from KING 5, the woman chillingly recalled An's words: "I don't need anything. Today, I'm going to kill."
An was initially facing a multitude of charges, including attempted murder, domestic violence, kidnapping, assault, and felony harassment, as reported by The Olympian and FOX 13 Seattle.
During his plea agreement, An admitted to taking deliberate steps to harm his wife.
The Olympian, citing unspecified court documents, reported that An confessed to kidnapping his wife, taking her to the woods, binding her, placing her in a hole, and covering her with branches.
While An expressed regret for his actions during the hearing, stating he wished he could go back and walk away, the damage is undeniable.
The victim's life, according to her statement via KING 5, is forever altered.
She carries the emotional and physical scars of the attack, stating, "After that day, I and my children's life was crushed... I have to live my life with emotional trauma and health issues for the rest of my life."
