Unknown murder Victim From 1979 Identified as Wanda Lee Brewer

A haunting mystery from 1979 has finally found some resolution. 

Back then, a couple stumbled upon skeletal remains while hunting near Highway 175 in California. 

Deputy Powers, a dedicated officer still serving part-time with the Sheriff's Office today, launched a homicide investigation. 

However, despite his efforts, the case turned cold, and the identity of the remains remained a frustrating unknown.

Over the years, the Lake County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) remained relentless in their pursuit of the truth. 

They actively collaborated with the California Department of Justice (CA DOJ) to leverage any advancements in technology that might help identify the victim, known only as "Jane Doe."

A turning point came in March 2023.

The CA DOJ proposed contacting Othram, a private DNA lab specializing in cutting-edge techniques. 

This potentially held the key to finally unlocking the secrets of Jane Doe's identity.

Hope arose in January 2024 when a possible match for a living relative surfaced. 

Sergeant Frace, the dedicated coroner sergeant, meticulously followed up, gathering information.

 However, a positive identification remained elusive.

But the investigation continued. 

In March 2024, a second potential relative was identified. 

This time, the interview revealed a crucial detail - the relative's grandmother had two sisters, one of whom vanished in the 1970s. 

Armed with this information and details from the previous interview, Sergeant Frace meticulously searched for additional relatives.

Months of interviews and further DNA testing culminated in a breakthrough in April 2024. 

Jane Doe was finally identified as Wanda Lee Brewer from Carson, California.

While the investigation is ongoing, this newfound identity offers a renewed sense of purpose. 

Detectives are actively seeking new leads that could shed light on Wanda Lee's final days.
