Azuradee France, a 33-year-old mother with six children in Michigan will be spending many years in prison for her heinous crimes.
She tortured and killed her 3-year-old son, who was blind, and then hid his body in a freezer in the basement.
Detroit police officers went to a home in the 12760 block of Monte Vista on June 24, 2022, after receiving a request to check on the well-being of a young child there.
When they got there, the police found the body of a child named Chayse in a freezer in the basement of the home.
France was immediately arrested and taken to Wayne County Jail.
Detroit Police Chief James E. White said that what police found inside France’s home was “something that no one should have to see.”
White mentioned that during their first interview with France, the officers noticed she was acting strangely.
She tried to avoid talking to the police and Child Protective Services, pretending nothing was wrong.
The officers immediately suspected something was amiss, which prompted them to search the home and find Chayse's body.
Police Investigation
During a police interview, France allegedly stated that one night in late March 2022, she got very angry with Chayse because he wouldn't eat.
She admitted to hitting him with a belt and kicking him in the chest at least once.
The next morning, when she checked on him, she found that the toddler had died.
France said she didn’t call 911 because she was afraid the police would take her other children.
Instead, she put Chayse’s body in a bag and placed it in the freezer in the basement.
She had other kids in the house, and they were all living with a decomposing body.
Court proceedings
Azuradee France formally pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder for killing young Chayse Allen in 2022.
France was first arrested in June 2022 and charged with several serious crimes, like murder, child abuse, torture, and hiding a person's death.
She agreed to plead guilty to the charge of killing her son, and in return, the other charges against her were dropped.
France’s lawyer, Lillian Diallo from the Public Defender’s Office, told The Detroit News that her client has agreed to a plea deal.
This deal means she will serve a sentence of 35 to 60 years in a state prison.
Prosecutors were also shocked by the heinous nature of the case.
They said the details of this case have stunned even those who are usually not surprised.
France is scheduled to appear in court again on July 29, for her sentencing hearing
