In Canton, sanitation workers discovered the body of a woman reported missing from Plain Township on Wednesday morning.
Stark County Sheriff George Maier stated that the body is likely that of Raychel Sheridan, aged 24.
Authorities suspect she was murdered in her apartment, where she lived with her boyfriend, who has since been apprehended by Canton police.
Sheriff Maier, speaking at a news conference, mentioned that the investigation is ongoing and did not disclose further details about the case at this time.
The discovery came after deputies responded to a call from Sheridan's mother and found the apartment door open but no one inside.
Inside, deputies noticed suspicious circumstances and obtained a search warrant to investigate further.
"The deputies noticed something was wrong," Sheriff Maier remarked. "Their training led them to suspect foul play."
Investigators believe Sheridan's body was discovered near Mother Goose Land park by Canton sanitation workers around 9:24 a.m. Wednesday.
The specifics of where exactly she was found are still being confirmed, but Maier indicated her body was wrapped in material likely from her apartment, possibly near a dumpster.
The case continues to be investigated intensively by authorities, with efforts focused on uncovering more details about what led to Sheridan's tragic death.
