Virginia McCullough Confesses to Killing Her Parents in 2019 and Living with Their Bodies for Four Years

On July 4, 2024, Virginia McCullough, 36, confessed to murdering her parents in 2019.

After killing them, she lived in their home with their bodies for four years.

McCullough admitted she killed her parents, who were in their 70s, between June 17 and June 20, 2019, and then hid their bodies in the house.

Over the next four years, whenever someone asked about her parents, McCullough told various lies to hide what she had done.

She would tell doctors and relatives that her parents were sick or had gone out of town for vacations or long trips.

Local residents and workers were also worried about the McCulloughs because they hadn't seen them for several years.

It wasn’t until 2023, when her parents’ doctor got worried and reported to police, that a formal investigation began.

On September 13, 2023, the police searched McCullough's home and that was when they found the bodies.

Virginia McCullough immediately confessed to poisoning her father with prescription drugs and stabbing her mother.

Neighbors described Virginia McCullough as "a little bit strange."

In an interview with The Guardian, a local shop worker said they used to see the McCulloughs "two or three times a week," but that stopped just before the COVID-19 pandemic.

After that, Virginia McCullough moved into her parents’ home and was seen more often.

She was described as “quite chatty” and “a little bit strange sometimes.”

The unnamed worker said, “If anything, she was just a bit of a nuisance.”

One neighbor, Dave Oldershaw, said McCullough “wasn’t a troublemaker” and he “thought she lived alone” in the house. 

However, he noted that he didn’t know her well besides their occasional greetings.

Another neighbor, Phil Sargent, said McCullough frequently approached people and seemed slightly irrational.

But he said he didn’t see her as a threat.

“We’re all shocked,” said the unnamed worker. “We didn’t think she was capable of this.”

The reason behind McCullough's decision to kill her parents has not been made public.

At the court hearing, Judge Christopher Morgan informed McCullough that, given the circumstances, only one sentence was possible.

In many countries, the sentence might be life imprisonment with the possibility of parole or a minimum term that must be served before becoming eligible for parole.

It all depends on the jurisdiction and the details of the case.

The court would determine the exact sentence based on the specifics of the case and the relevant laws.

Judge Morgan added that McCullough is to be sentenced on October 10.
