A body discovered in a Sarasota County creek has been confirmed as belonging to a man who went missing on August 6th, according to local authorities.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office revealed that the missing individual was 67-year-old Jose Andino.
His family reported him missing last Tuesday after he did not show up for work on Monday.
Despite multiple intensive search efforts spanning several days, officials were unable to locate Andino.
The sheriff's office tracked Andino's last known location using his cell phone, which had pinged in the vicinity of Bahia Vista and Phillippi Creek.
Days later, after the floodwaters from Tropical Storm Debby had subsided, a local resident crossing the footbridge over Phillippi Creek near Graber and Kaufman Avenue noticed a submerged vehicle and immediately alerted the authorities.
The Sheriff's Underwater Rescue Force was dispatched once again.
Upon diving into the creek, they discovered Andino's 2005 Toyota 4-Runner submerged in the water.
Sadly, Andino was identified as the deceased.
Investigations in the area are still ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to reach out to the Criminal Investigations Section at 941-861-4900.
