Scorned boyfriend who slit his ex’s throat after their breakup ‘to speed up the process’ sentenced to life
An Ohio man has been sentenced to life in prison after he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and brutally murdered her.
He stabbed her over 30 times, then he slit her throat to "speed up the process."
Chance Donohoe, 27, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 31 years for the death of 29-year-old Shannon Hiott.
He pleaded guilty last month to aggravated murder and gross abuse of a corpse, according to prosecutors.

Hiott’s mother, Jamie Hiott, expressed her anger at the defendant in court, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
“How terrified she must have been. You’re a foot taller and 100 pounds heavier,” she said, according to the newspaper.
“You had all that time to change your mind, but you’re a monster.”
In a plea for leniency, Donohoe’s lawyer said he was high on marijuana, methamphetamine, and cocaine at the time of the killing.
The lawyer also said that Donohoe was drunk from drinking a large amount of alcohol that day.
In a letter with the sentencing memo, his mother, Ashley Radca, wrote that her son has endured many hardships throughout his life.
She noted that Donohoe was raised by a single mother, had an absent biological father, and had been in counseling since age 5.
“I will never fully understand how my son was capable of doing the horrific things he did the night he ended Shannon’s life,” she wrote.
“It was so entirely out of character and not like anything he had ever done in the past. What he did was beyond terrible, and he must pay a consequence for his actions.”
Hiott was killed on August 29.
Donohoe forced his way into her home on the 1400 block of Berkeley Road in Columbus and stabbed her.
She had been stabbed 30 times, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
After the stabbing, he fled to his mother’s home in Powell, where he called 911, confessed, and surrendered to the police.
He told them he slit her throat to speed up the process.
"This was not drugs, this is not ketamine, this is not methamphetamine, this is not cocaine, this is someone that’s angry." the prosecutor said.
"He’s pissed off about posts being made about him on social media. He’s upset about their breakup and he goes to her house that night and sees a vehicle from another man that he knows that he recognizes." the prosecutor further stated.
The victim’s sister, Lana Hiott, told local ABC/FOX affiliate WSYX that Donohoe had stolen money and prescription medication from her, and she had asked him to move out a week before.
Days before her death, Shannon Hiott posted on Facebook, "I stopped trying to be the catalyst for change in my relationship, and the truth came out. I am so much happier now than I was a couple of weeks ago," according to the outlet.
