Collin Griffith: 17-Year-Old Charged with Stabbing Mother to Death in Florida, One Year After Killing His Father in Oklahoma
He told the police that his mother, 39-year-old Catherine Griffith, had been accidentally stabbed in the neck during a struggle.
According to Collin, she attacked him with a knife and fell on it during the altercation.
However, police officers quickly determined that his story didn’t match the evidence found at the scene.

When detectives questioned Collin, he became uncooperative, refused to provide further details, and requested a lawyer.
Investigators soon realized that the crime scene pointed to something far more sinister.
Neighbors and witnesses reported hearing a heated argument between Collin and his mother before the tragedy.
Some said they saw the teen grab Catherine by the hair and forcefully drag her into the house while she begged for him to let her go.
“He just grabbed her — it looked like by the hair,” said Nancy K. Jones, a neighbor who lives across the street.
“There was yelling and then he pulled her inside the house. After that, everything went silent.”
Catherine Griffith |
Collin Griffith’s grandmother, who owns the house where the incident took place, was not present at the time.
However, she informed police that Collin had a history of being physically and verbally aggressive toward his mother.
She also confided in neighbors that Collin had been dealing with "problems" for some time.
An autopsy later revealed that Catherine had suffered a deep knife wound to the neck.
The medical examiner concluded that the injury could not have been caused accidentally.
This revelation strongly contradicted Collin Griffith's claim that his mother had fallen on the knife.
This isn’t the first time Collin has been involved in a family tragedy.
In 2023, when he was just 15 years old, he fatally shot his father, Charles Robert Griffith.
He killed him during an altercation at their Oklahoma home on February 14, 2023.
Collin Griffith claimed that he had acted in self-defense after being cornered by his father in a bedroom.
He shot his father twice—once in the chest and once in the head.
At that time, Catherine had posted a $50,000 bond to secure her son's release from jail.
The charges were later dropped as prosecutors couldn’t rule out self-defense.
After the tragic death of his father, Collin was placed in the care of Florida's Department of Children and Families.
Despite the violent history, he was reunited with his mother a year later.
During this period, he allegedly first threatened to kill her.
This threat foreshadowed the deadly encounter that occurred on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
"Collin Griffith is a violent predator — he has now killed both his father and his mother," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement.
"We will do everything in our power to hold him accountable and ensure he is kept away from society."
Collin Griffith has been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, and violating a no-contact order.
He is currently being held without bail and faces a lengthy legal process ahead.
