Convicted Florida Child Molester Reportedly Beaten By Another Inmate and Drowned in Jail Toilet

A convicted child molester serving a life sentence has died in a Florida jail.

He was reportedly attacked and killed by his cellmate.

Paul Dixon, 43, was arrested on suspicion of murdering David Oseas Ramirez.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on July 30, 2019 at Duval County Jail.

Authorities reported that Dixon killed his cellmate after a verbal altercation escalated into a physical fight.

A third cellmate who witnessed the attack has, so far, refused to cooperate with detectives.

David Oseas Ramirez

The attack happened in the east wing of the fifth floor of the Duval County Jail.

This area houses inmates awaiting transfers to state prison or court proceedings.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office did not identify the victim in their statement.

However, as reported by First Coast News, jail records show that Ramirez is no longer housed at the jail.

The reported reason for his release is listed as "deceased."

Ramirez was sentenced to life in prison in 2013, after he was convicted of the molestation of an 11-year-old girl.

The jury took just 15 minutes to find him guilty of the charge, according to reports at the time.

According to crime analyst Ken Jefferson, when men go to jail accused or convicted of harming a child, there is no peace.

He noted that they must constantly watch their backs and hope to befriend someone who can protect them.

Dixon had arrived at Duval County jail from another facility.

He was reportedly awaiting court proceedings for a new sentencing hearing.

Dixon is serving a life sentence after being convicted of murder in 1993 when he was just 17 years old.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said examples of cellmates killing each other are rare at the prison.

Police stated that surveillance footage from inside the prison has been provided to investigators as evidence.

The department added in a statement, "Every aspect of this incident will be evaluated, and the investigation is ongoing."
