Caught on Camera: Chilling Ring Camera Footage Shows Ohio Father Fatally Shooting Daughter’s Ex-Boyfriend Who Tried to Break into Their Home

On July 31, 2022, a father fatally shot his daughter’s ex-boyfriend as he tried to break into their home. 

The incident took place in Sydney, Ohio, and the entire confrontation was recorded on a Ring doorbell camera.

James Rayl, a 22-year-old man, was killed after he forcibly tried to enter the home of his ex-girlfriend, Allyson Duckro. 

He was fatally shot despite numerous warnings to leave from Allyson's father, Mitch Duckro.

The Events Leading Up to the Fatal Shooting

On that fateful day, video footage showed James Rayl arriving at the Duckro residence and attempting to open the front door. 

Allyson, who had broken up with Rayl in 2019, had no desire to talk with him.

So he was asked to leave by Allyson’s parents, but he did not leave.

Instead, Rayl defiantly tried to break the door down, using his shoulder to ram it. 

In the footage, Mitch Duckro can be heard warning Rayl that he was armed; however, this did not deter the young man.

Rayl continued to hit the door even more aggressively.

As the door began to break down, Duckro fired three gunshots through the door, hitting Rayl. 

Sadly, the 22-year-old died on the spot.

Allyson’s Fearful Account

During a videotaped police interview obtained by the Daily Mail, Allyson revealed that she had been terrified as she watched Rayl’s attempts to enter the home. 

She told investigators that after their breakup in 2019, Rayl became verbally abusive, telling her that “no one would ever love her again.” 

Their relationship had deteriorated to the point where she blocked him on all social media platforms and moved on with her life. 

Rayl, on the other hand, appeared to have struggled with the breakup.

Allyson recounted that she had not been in contact with Rayl recently, but she had noticed changes in his behavior. 

The night before the incident, Rayl had left a voicemail for Allyson that was later shared by his sister. 

In the message, Rayl spoke softly, saying he wanted to reconnect with her.

However, Allyson said she found his message troubling and unsettling.

“I freaked out and ran and hid,” Allyson explained during her interrogation. 

She admitted that she was too scared to witness the exact moment her father pulled the trigger. 

She later thanked her father for protecting her after the incident. 

“Dad, there’s nothing you could have done. You saved my life” she said.

Her mother, Stacie Duckro, also expressed her fear for her daughter’s safety during her own interview with the police. 

Tearfully, she explained, “He tried to get my daughter,” while also acknowledging the pain Rayl’s family must be feeling after losing him.

Legal Outcome and Family Reactions

James Rayl's shooting was ruled as an act of self-defense under Ohio's "Stand Your Ground" law. 

The law allows homeowners to use deadly force if they believe their lives are in danger.

A Shelby County grand jury voted 8-1 against indicting Mitch Duckro.

They unanimously agreed that his actions were legally justified. 

However, this decision sparked outrage from Rayl’s family.

In response, they launched a Facebook page demanding justice for him. 

His sister, Jessica Colbert, has been particularly vocal.

She posted messages condemning Duckro and his daughter. 

In one post, she accused Mitch of shooting Rayl in the back and labeled him a “disgusting excuse of a human being.”

Despite the legal decision, emotions remain raw on both sides of the tragedy. 

While the Duckro family defends their actions as a necessary act of protection, Rayl’s family continues to grieve, feeling that justice has not been served.

What was supposed to be a peaceful day turned into nightmare for all parties involved. 

The Ring camera footage captured the tragic final moments of Rayl’s life as he made a choice that cost him everything.

Though no charges were filed, the emotional scars will likely remain for both families. 

As Allyson and her family try to move forward, Rayl’s loved ones continue their fight for what they believe is justice for a life cut short.
