Justie T. Stilwell was a middle school janitor from Bay City, Michigan.

He was initially reported missing after failing to show up for work for two consecutive days.

Tragically, his dismembered remains were later found marking the beginning of a chilling investigation.

What Happened To Justie Stilwell?

On September 14, 2024, Justie Stilwell went out to meet 40-year-old Robert Tweedly who he had been chatting with on the dating app Grindr.

However, the interaction between the two men took a horrifying turn shortly after Stilwell entered Tweedly’s house.

Court records show that Stilwell wanted to leave soon after getting to Tweedly's house.

Angered by this, Tweedly reportedly shoved Stilwell down a staircase in his basement.

Tweedly then followed him and proceeded to strangle him until he stopped breathing.

The horror didn’t end there.

Tweedly admitted that he initially attempted to move Stilwell's body upstairs but found it too heavy.

He then tried using a rope to lift the body but this plan failed.

Tweedly then chose to dismember Stilwell’s body, cutting off the arms and legs from the torso.

In the days that followed, Tweedly disposed of the remains in two locations.

He discarded the arms and legs in the Saginaw River and dumped the head and torso in a nearby nature preserve.

On September 18, 2024, a teenager discovered Justie's severed foot floating in the river.

This discovery triggered an investigation that uncovered the chilling crime.

Arrest and Justice

On September 27, 2024, Robert Tweedly was formally charged with open murder and the dismemberment or mutilation of a body.

He remains in custody on a $1 million bond.

Prosecutors are expected to present a robust case built on Tweedly’s confession, forensic evidence, and witness testimonies.

This is not Tweedly’s first brush with violence.

In 2015, he was convicted of domestic violence for assaulting and choking a former boyfriend.

Despite receiving probation for that incident, his violent tendencies resurfaced most horrifyingly with the murder of Justie Stilwell.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Justie’s family and friends hope for justice.
