A terrifying incident unfolded at the Fair Oaks Shopping Center on July 18 when a man allegedly snatched a toddler near an indoor play area before being stopped by a quick-thinking parent.
Thanks to the rapid response of law enforcement, the suspect was arrested within hours.
At around 11:43 a.m., officers rushed to the mall after reports that a man had picked up a young girl and walked away with her.
Witnesses say the suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Andres Caceres Jaldin, made it to the second level before a woman confronted him inside a store he entered.
He then reportedly left the child in the store and ran away.
According to NBC4 Chicago, the child was with her sibling and father in the play area before she went out, only to be abducted.
"The parent got her back unharmed," police confirmed, but the suspect fled before officers arrived.

Patrol officers, along with detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division and Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), immediately launched an investigation.
Using surveillance footage, they identified Caceres Jaldin and tracked his movements.
During their investigation, detectives discovered that before the abduction, Caceres Jaldin had allegedly stolen a car from a nearby auto repair shop around 10 a.m.
The stolen vehicle was eventually spotted at the mall and later found parked at the Extended Stay hotel in Chantilly, where the suspect was staying.
When detectives arrived at the hotel, Caceres Jaldin walked out of his room and was taken into custody without incident.
Caceres Jaldin now faces charges of abduction of a minor and grand larceny – auto theft.
He is currently being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center with no bond.
"This case is another clear example of how swift coordination between our Real Time Crime Center, detectives, and patrol officers leads to the rapid identification and arrest of dangerous criminals," police stated.
