Ryan Reese: New Mexico Man Gets Historic 391-Year Sentence for Abusing Daughter, Would Not Be Eligible for Parole Until 2357
A man from Alamogordo, New Mexico, will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars after a judge handed down a sentence that officials say is the longest in the history of the region.
Ryan Reese, 40, was ordered to serve 391 years in prison for the repeated sexual abuse of his young daughter.
The criminal case against Reese began to unfold in August 2022 after his daughter, who was a minor at the time, bravely disclosed the abuse she was suffering to her classmates.
This revelation led to a formal investigation by the Otero County Sheriff’s Office, as per KRQE
Extensive investigations later showed that the abuse happened over a six-year period, from April 2016 to April 2022, and sadly, the victim was just six years old when the abuse started. When detectives questioned Reese about the allegations, he denied all of them as seen in the footage below from Law&Crime.
One year after the official report was made, in 2023, an Otero County grand jury indicted Reese on multiple counts of sexual abuse and in February 2025, it was finally presented to a jury. The trial lasted several days, during which prosecutors laid out the evidence against the father.
On February 14, 2025, the jury found Reese guilty on all counts including: 18 counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor under 13, seven counts of criminal sexual contact, and six counts of incest.
Reese was sentenced on April 7, 2025, and the weight of the crimes was reflected in the lengthy prison term. The 391-year sentence is historic for the area, marking the longest prison sentence ever handed down in the history of New Mexico’s 12th Judicial District, which covers Otero and Lincoln counties.
The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Ryan Suggs, who took office just six weeks before the trial began. Following the sentencing, DA Suggs made it clear that the outcome was the result of a dedicated team effort. He emphasized that his office pursued the strictest punishment available under state law, as per Elpaso Times.
“When we have a case like this, I will not rest until I know I am going to put the strongest case possible before the jury,” Suggs said.
“My team of prosecutors, staff and victim’s advocates share the same sentiment. When I said that my administration will prosecute those who viciously abuse our children, to the fullest extent of the law, I meant it.”
He added a direct comment on the judge’s decision, stating, “I respect Judge Ochoa’s sentence. It’s the most our law allowed him to impose or otherwise I would have asked for something more.”
Under New Mexico law, Reese must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence before he can even be considered for parole, meaning that he will not be eligible for release until the year 2357
