A 20-year-old man is in custody after a violent rampage across a Florida city left his own cousin dead and four other people wounded.
The suspect, Terrell Gibson of West Palm Beach, told investigators he was trying to “kill demons” when he opened fire on a group of people, as reported by CBS News.

Around 6:15 PM, on March 16, 2026, officers were called to the Azure Estates apartment complex in Riviera Beach, Florida, following reports of a shooting inside.
According to Riviera Beach Police Chief Michael Coleman, Gibson was at the complex visiting a friend, and at some point, he walked to a clubhouse on the property where he encountered a group of people.
Gibson claimed he was harassed by the group, so he called his cousin, identified as John Halliburton, and asked him to bring a backpack with a firearm.
Once Gibson had the gun, Gibson shot his cousin, Halliburton, along with other individuals who were at the location. In total, authorities say two people were shot within the apartment complex during that initial burst of violence, and sadly, Halliburton died from his injuries.
But the violence did not end there. After fleeing the apartment complex, Gibson attempted to steal a vehicle, and dring the carjacking attempt, police say he shot three more people before he took the vehicle by force, and fled the scene."

Gibson was eventually tracked down and taken into custody by law enforcement. He now faces a heavy list of charges, including one count of first-degree murder, four counts of attempted first-degree murder, and one count of armed carjacking.
According to police, when he spoke to detectives about the shooting that killed his own cousin and wounded others, Gibson showed no sorrow for his actions. He also reportedly claimed that he was following orders from spirits to "kill the demons."
"After obtaining the weapon, Gibson stated that he had to get rid of the demons. Then he said the demons, the spirits told him to kill the demons, so he shot the people that were in front of him." Chief Coleman said during a news briefing.
The investigation remains active as authorities work to piece together the exact chain of events that led to the deadly shooting spree
"Of course, you know we're not doctors. We're not in the medical profession," Coleman said. "It's not normal to hear demons. But he did say that he wanted to get rid of the demons. So, that's something we have to continue to investigate."
