A Nebraska man, Jason Jones, has been sentenced to death for killing four people in a single night, including an elderly couple and their adult daughter.
The victims were his neighbors, and they were later identified as Gene Twiford, 86; his wife Janet Twiford, 85; their daughter Dana Twiford, 55; and a neighbor named Michele Ebeling, 53.

According to police reports, it all started a day prior to the crime, when Jason Jones and his wife Carrie Jones had a violent argument at their own home.
During that fight, Carrie threatened Jason with a gun and a knife and told him to deal with their neighbor Gene Twiford, or she would do it herself.
Carrie had complained to her husband for years about Gene Twiford verbally harassing her, and at the time, she said the situation had become unbearable.
On the night of the killings, which was Aug 4, 2022, Jason broke into the Twiford home and shot Gene to death. He did not realize that Janet and Dana were also inside, so when he found out, he shot and killed them, before he set the Twiford house on fire.
After that, Jason went to Michele Ebeling’s home and also killed her, as reported by Law&Crime. Carrie had once told her husband she thought Ebeling was “weird” and had complained that Ebeling stared at her, prosecutors said.
He also set Ebeling’s home on fire, before he returned to his own home with severe burns. Even though the injuries were “melting” and “gooey,” yhe couple did not seek medical treatment because they believed it would raise suspicion about how he got burned.

Despite the fact that they tried to get away with the crime, police arrested Jason Jones less than 24 hours after the killings.
Additionally, investigators confirmed that the 86‑year‑old victim had a reputation for harassing people in the area and had been asked to leave certain places because of his behavior.
Carrie Jones was later arrested in December 2022 after authorities concluded that without Carrie’s influence, the murders never would have happened.
In August 2025, Carrie Jones was convicted of first‑degree murder for killing Gene Twiford, and in November 2025, she received a life sentence for that conviction plus an additional 21 to 30 years for accessory charges and evidence tampering.
Jason Jones was later convicted on ten felony charges for the deaths of all four victims, and in April 2026, a three‑judge panel sentenced Jason Jones to death.
The judges were Bryan Meismer of Dakota City, Timothy Burns of Omaha, and Patrick Heng of McCook. Their decision was unanimous, making Jason the 12th inmate on Nebraska’s death row as at the time of this report.
