A 34-year-old Fort Worth man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the assault and drugging of his girlfriend, who died in 2023.
The man, Kaleb Mickens, also known online as "Cash Cartier," initially told 911 that his dog had attacked the woman, Sheila Cuevas, but investigators later discovered that it was a lie.

On October 8, 2023, Mickens called 911, and he reported that Cuevas was no longer breathing and he told the dispatcher that his dog, a canine named "Soldier," had attacked her.
Animal control officers quickly responded to the scene, took the dog, and later euthanized the animal.
However, investigators later determined that the dog had nothing to do with Cuevas’ injuries or her death.
According to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, Mickens had assaulted and drugged Cuevas.
Prosecutors did not release all the specific details of what happened inside the home, but the charges centered on a violent physical attack that led to her death.
Mickens later pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated assault family violence in connection with Cuevas’ death.
In the end, a judge ultimately sentenced him to 40 years in prison for that charge, according to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.
He also received 20 years for a probation revocation from a prior aggravated assault case that caused serious bodily injury.
In addition, he received 15 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Dallas County, and according to Prosecutors, each of these offenses involved different women with whom Mickens had been in a relationship.
According to District Attorney Phil Sorrells, Mickens was a prominent figure in the multi-level marketing program IM Academy. He reportedly used his perceived wealth and status to manipulate his lovers with threats and promises while hiding a violent private life.

During his sentencing in a packed courtroom, several women delivered impact statements, as reported by CBS News
They described years of abuse, manipulation, torture, and sexual assault by Mickens which they managed to escape.
Cuevas’ brother also addressed Mickens in court saying "There can be no justice that brings Sheila back, but thee can be outcomes, and there can be accountability, and you deserve this."
