Camariya Tidwell: South Carolina Man Charged With Murder After 19-Year-Old Woman Is Found Shot Dead Outside Rock Hill Home

In South Carolina, a 34-year-old man is facing murder charges after a 19-year-old woman was found shot to death outside a home in Rock Hill late Saturday night.

According to the Rock Hill Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting on May 16, 2026, at around 11 p.m. in the 700 block of Mount Gallant Road, near the intersection with Anderson Road.

When police arrived, they found 19-year-old Camariya Tidwell suffering from gunshot wounds outside the residence. The York County Coroner later confirmed that Tidwell died from her injuries, as per Herald Online

Police later identified the suspect as Sean Xavier Hubbard, 34, of Clover, and according to reports, Hubbard allegedly opened fire at the same house earlier that day while no one was inside the residence.

Tragically, the second shooting happened later that night and resulted in Tidwell’s death.

According to relatives of the victim, the violence had started days before the fatal shooting when someone fired several shots into their home on Tuesday, May 12, while adults and children were still inside the house.

Camariya Tidwell’s mother, Shifarnia McCullough, said bullets were fired through her son’s bedroom while her son and grandson were lying in bed.

According to the family, they spent the following days living in fear as the situation continued to escalate as reported by WCNC News.

Tidwell’s brother, Caleb Tidwell, said the suspect repeatedly targeted the family and monitored the home in the days leading up to the killing.

According to the family, Hubbard had previously been hired to work on a family member’s car after being contacted through social media, but tensions reportedly began after a cousin told him she no longer wanted him working on the vehicle.

The cousin, Jamya McCullough, said Hubbard allegedly threatened her after she ended contact with him and blocked him. Following the earlier shooting, the family installed security cameras around the home, and they said the footage later captured Hubbard returning to the property Saturday evening and firing through the front door while the house was empty.

Family members said they later asked officers to remain near the home while they gathered belongings and prepared to leave because they feared Hubbard would come back.

The surveillance footage they installed helped investigators identify Hubbard as a suspect so officers continued searching the area for Hubbard.

However, they were unable to find him and Hubbard eventually returned to the home on foot around 11 p.m., and that was when Tidwell was fatally shot.

The family believes Hubbard waited nearby until police left the area before returning to the property. Surveillance video reportedly showed him walking near the side of the home shortly before the shooting.

After the deadly shooting, authorities launched a search for Hubbard. Early the next day, members of the York County SWAT team, along with Rock Hill police officers, located and arrested him on Fig Branch Road near Lake Wylie, which is more than 20 miles from the Rock Hill crime scene.

Police also recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the killing, although investigators have not disclosed what type of firearm it was.

Rock Hill police have not officially said what led to the shootings, and investigators have not released information about a possible motive.

Lt. Michael Chavis told The Herald that it remains unclear what relationship, if any, Tidwell had with Hubbard or whether she was the intended target in the shooting.

Hubbard has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and discharging a firearm into a dwelling in connection with the earlier shooting at the unoccupied home.

Following his arrest, he was booked into the York County jail where authorities said he is being held without bail.

As relatives mourned Tidwell’s death, her family described her as caring and deeply loved by those around her. Her mother said Tidwell loved her family and her dog, while cousin Jamya McCullough described her as “sweet as gold.”
