On April 24, 2026, a dispute over whether to eat dinner at home or go out to a restaurant escalated into a fatal stabbing in Lac La Belle, Wisconsin.
This has led prosecutors to charge a 27-year-old woman, Mikayla Kloth with first-degree intentional homicide for the killing of her boyfriend, Roush.
After the fatal incident, Mikayla Kloth called 911 from the couple’s apartment, and the victim was rushed to a local hospital, but sadly, he died less than an hour later, according to online reports.
During the investigation, Kloth allegedly admitted to officers that she stabbed her boyfriend because she was angry that he refused to go out to eat with her.
She told police that the victim wanted to stay home and cook chicken in an air fryer instead, and she said that he “began pushing her buttons,” after which an argument broke out.
While being transported to the police station, Kloth reportedly made several spontaneous statements like “should have just gone to the bar” and that “the whole thing was irritating.” She also said that if the victim’s parents did not hate her before, they would hate her now for taking their son's life.
During the investigation, authorities also spoke with the couple’s landlord, who provided additional context about the relationship.
The landlord told police that approximately one week before the stabbing, the victim had claimed that Kloth bit him during an argument. The landlord also alleged that the victim said, “Please take my full name, in case something ever happens to me.”
Kloth has appeared in court and a judge has ordered her to remain in custody on a $2 million bond. Additionally, her preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 29, and she faces life in prison if convicted.
