Atlanta Man Faces Prison Time for Woman's Death After He Threw Her Out Of A Lamborghini

An individual from Atlanta, who was previously the owner of one of the world's most luxurious cars, has been sentenced to ten years in prison following the death of a woman.

In October 2021, Alfred Megbuluba, aged 33, forcibly pushed Catherine Khan, 28, out of his Lamborghini Huracan as the vehicle was crossing the intersection of Peachtree Road and Piedmont Road.

Multiple witnesses observed the young woman falling, and tragically, she was struck by another car after landing on the ground.

An unidentified woman, sharing her account with Atlanta-based ABC affiliate WSB-TV, described the harrowing night, saying, "We just left her on the ground. My boyfriend and I were waving down cars to prevent them from hitting the people who were trying to revive her."

Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Khan ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

A week after her death, Megbuluba turned himself in to the Fulton County Jail and was initially charged with felony murder, theft by taking, and financial transaction card theft.

In January 2022, a formal indictment was issued on the same charges.

Following the victim's demise, a video surfaced showing a woman arguing with the driver of the Lamborghini. The man was identified as Megbuluba, while friends recognized the woman as Khan.

In the footage, she can be heard desperately pleading, "Call the cops, call the cops! I just got robbed... there's cameras in there... my ID, my card, everything."

According to friends who spoke to WSB-TV, the video was apparently filmed outside the Buckhead restaurant where Khan worked as a beloved mixologist. They added that Khan's wallet held sentimental value as a family heirloom.

During a memorial service, a family member expressed their grief, stating, "Grief exists where love lived first.

One cherished memory of her was when she visited my family last year with my sister. She cooked for us, we spent time at the pier and the beach, and we shared wonderful moments with this beloved soul."

A private Facebook group dedicated to honoring Khan's life currently has over 900 members who remember her fondly.

Describing Khan's compassionate nature, a GoFundMe page set up to cover her funeral expenses states, "She had the kindest heart and the most generous soul you could ever encounter.

She would selflessly give the clothes off her back to ensure your warmth without considering its impact on her. Catherine was a young, beautiful, charismatic individual who stood up for her beliefs without shame."

911 calls obtained by local NBC affiliate WXIA revealed witnesses describing Khan being forcibly ejected from a grey Lamborghini following an altercation.

One caller reported, "It was a grey Lambo... There was an altercation at the Red Taqueria. I saw her in the front seat of the Lambo, and then they threw her out of the car onto the roof."

The caller further noted that the driver fled the scene after the woman was ejected.

Prosecutors later alleged that Megbuluba used Khan's stolen credit cards to make purchases while she was fighting for her life, buying items such as an energy drink, tobacco products, and gum.

In August, 2022, the defendant rejected a plea deal that could have resulted in a maximum of 15 years in prison on a 20-year sentence, as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

However, recently, defense attorney Steve Sadow stated in an email to the McClatchy News Service that his client ultimately accepted a 15-year sentence after pleading guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter.

The judge suspended five of those years, meaning Megbuluba will serve a maximum of 10 years behind bars, as reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

During Khan's memorial in October 2021, a friend remembered her as a strong-willed individual who loved everyone deeply. They expressed, "She's still with us. We can feel her."
