In a tragic incident at a cinema in the USA, a 52-year-old man named Michael Tenorio was fatally shot following an argument between two couples over seating arrangements.
The incident occurred during a screening of the movie "No Hard Feelings," featuring Jennifer Lawrence, at a cinema complex in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Sunday evening.
Witnesses stated that Enrique Padilla, a 19-year-old, arrived at the cinema with his girlfriend and discovered that another couple had occupied their reserved seats.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tenorio and his wife, Trina, had purchased tickets on either side of those seats and were hoping to request a seat swap to sit together.
Initially, the box office staff assured the Tenorios that resolving the issue would not be a problem.
However, the situation quickly escalated into chaos when Padilla stood up and threw a bucket of popcorn at Mrs. Tenorio.
According to the police, employees from Century Rio cinema tried to intervene, but when Mr. Tenorio pushed Padilla, the teenager responded by pulling out a gun and firing shots at him.
The incident occurred in the darkened cinema, making it difficult for witnesses to discern the presence of a weapon.
Fortunately, an off-duty police officer who happened to be at the movie theater rushed to provide emergency aid to Mr. Tenorio.
Although the officer witnessed the altercation, he did not have clear visibility in the darkness and only heard a rapid succession of gunshots.
One of the individuals involved in the argument fled the scene.
Emergency services responded to approximately 20 calls reporting the incident, but unfortunately, Mr. Tenorio, who his wife claims was unarmed, passed away at the scene.
As terrified moviegoers fled, Padilla reportedly also ran away, while his girlfriend engaged in a physical altercation with Mrs. Tenorio before leaving.
Later, Padilla was found wounded by officers, hiding behind a bush near an emergency exit.
The police discovered a firearm that matched spent casings from the shooting.
According to police spokesman Gilbert Gallegos, Padilla was being kept under guard at a hospital, receiving treatment for a gunshot wound.
Charges have been filed against Padilla in connection with the shooting, but it is unclear if he has legal representation to speak on his behalf.
An arrest warrant and criminal complaint list charges of homicide, shooting at an occupied building, and tampering with evidence against Padilla.
