Fatal Outburst: Man Faces Death Penalty for Shooting and Killing 4 of his Neighbours

A man facing allegations of shooting and killing four of his neighbors claimed that he reached a breaking point when one of the victims supposedly exposed himself in front of his daughter.

Majorjon Kaylor, 31, has been arrested and charged with four counts of murder and one count of burglary. If convicted, he could potentially face the death penalty for the killings that occurred on June 18, 2023

The incident unfolded at a multi-dwelling complex in Kellogg, Idaho, where police received a distressing call just after 7 p.m., reporting multiple casualties.

The victims were identified as Kenneth Guardipee, 65, his daughter Kenna Guardipee, 41, and her two sons, Devin Smith, 18, and Aiken Smith, 16. Authorities determined that all the deaths were a result of gunshot wounds.

Kaylor, who resided in the same unit as the victims, was swiftly taken into custody in connection with the killings. Charging documents referred to the shootings as premeditated.

Law enforcement had responded to a previous incident a week prior when Kaylor's wife, Kaylee Kaylor, accused Devin Smith of standing in front of his bedroom window and masturbating while she and her young daughter were playing outside.

Although no arrests were made initially, prosecutors were advised to charge Smith with indecent exposure, a misdemeanor.

As of Tuesday, there was no record of Smith being formally charged, indicating that either he had not been served papers before his untimely death or the case had not been made public for other reasons.

Kellogg Police Chief Paul Twidt stated, "We responded to the call, investigated the call, and the report was done that day and submitted to the prosecutor's office for charges. I stand by what my officer did, and he did everything he could at the time. Nobody could have foreseen anything like this."

When the police arrived at the scene of the shooting, they discovered that the two older victims had suffered gunshot wounds to the temple, while Aiken Smith was found shot at close range, and Devin had multiple close-range gunshots.

Kaylor's firearm was found with blood and tissue on it.

Prior to the tragic event, Kaylor and his wife had a dispute with Smith's mother over her son's behavior. An affidavit revealed that they were concerned that Kenneth Guardipee did not take the allegations seriously.

Kaylor allegedly confessed to investigators after his arrest that he "lost it," "snapped," and took action. He also claimed to be "suspicious and concerned for his children," stating that Smith had been watching them and engaging in inappropriate acts.

Following the shooting, Kaylor handed over his phone, keys, and wallet to his wife, asking her to inform their children that he had protected them.

He then placed a .45 handgun in a holster in a truck as he awaited the arrival of the police.

Prosecuting attorney Ben Allen described the crime as "horrific," particularly noting that one of the victims was a minor and that Kaylor had admitted to the murders.

"Admissions were ultimately made to the offenses charged," Allen stated during Kaylor's initial court appearance before Shoshone County Magistrate Judge Keisha Oxendine.

Kaylor is currently held without bond and, if found guilty, could face the death penalty.
