Florida Man Charged with Attempted Murder and Shooting a Missile

In a disturbing incident in Florida, a 28-year-old man was taken into custody for allegedly targeting and shooting two individuals inside a moving pickup truck. The shooting caused the truck to summersault and crash, as the suspect fired the missile into the vehicle while the victims were still inside.

Julian Mendes-Wolf, the accused, was arrested and now faces charges of attempted first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm, as well as shooting a missile into an occupied vehicle, according to authorities.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023, on Immokalee Road near Twin Eagles Boulevard. Investigators believe that Mendes-Wolf specifically singled out the two victims, both of whom were shot while inside a black pickup truck.

Mendes-Wolf is currently being held at the Collier County Jail, with bond withheld for the attempted murder charges. However, his bond for shooting a missile into an occupied vehicle was set at $250,000, as stated in records.

Sheriff Kevin Rambosk described the incident as an "outrageous act of violence" in a Facebook Live video, emphasizing that it was both senseless and deliberate. After Mendes-Wolf began shooting at the victims, the truck rolled over and crashed.

At first, deputies responding to the scene believed the injured individuals were victims of a single-car crash. However, it was later discovered that both victims had sustained gunshot wounds. Rescue teams had to use belt cutters to free the trapped victims from the overturned vehicle, after which they were airlifted to Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Meyers for treatment.

In an effort to generate leads and make an arrest, authorities released a photograph of the back of the victims' truck on June 8 and offered a $3,000 reward for information. The victims, identified as Amy Chesser and Scotty McCandless, have suffered severe and life-threatening injuries, including brain trauma, according to a GoFundMe page set up to support them.

The warrant issued for Mendes-Wolf's arrest states that he unlawfully and maliciously shot a bullet or projectile from a firearm into the vehicle. Mendes-Wolf's arraignment is scheduled for July 17, 2023, and it remains unclear whether he has retained legal representation or entered a plea.
