In a courageous display of valor, a grandmother found herself in a fierce battle against her neighbor's aggressive pitbull, using only her bare hands to shield her two young grandchildren.
Rhonda Stickney, a resident of Motley, Minnesota, recounted the terrifying encounter where the dangerous dog lunged at her daughter Tiffani, aged 27, as well as her grandchildren Jaxsyen, four, and Keyahra, two, as they stood at her doorway.
Without a moment's hesitation, the 50-year-old grandmother positioned herself between the ferocious mutt and the vulnerable children, determined to protect them from potential harm.
But the deranged dog managed to drag her outside by her leg, causing severe injuries as it tore chunks out of her face, legs, and arms.
In a desperate attempt to defend herself, Stickney bravely grabbed hold of the dog's jaw, preventing it from inflicting further harm until the owner intervened to wrestle the animal away and bring it back inside.
Startling photographs depict the extent of Stickney's injuries as blood poured down her battered face. Deep wounds, including one very close to her eye, and extensive bruising serve as grim reminders of the brutal attack.
Stickney's account of the incident reveals her selfless act of shielding her grandchildren. She vividly recalls the dog lunging toward the door as her daughter opened it, prompting her immediate instinct to step in front of her.
Grateful that she intervened, Stickney acknowledges that had the dog managed to reach her grandchildren, the consequences would have been tragic. Undeterred by fear, she acted swiftly, positioning herself as a shield between the children and the aggressive animal.
Following the traumatic event, Stickney was rushed to the hospital where she underwent surgery to receive stitches for her wounds. Months later, she remains on medication and requires regular visits to the hospital for her leg to be treated.
Stickney anticipates that the scars on her chin, eye, arm, and leg will be lasting reminders of the incident.
In light of the financial burden incurred due to medical expenses, Stickney established a GoFundMe campaign to seek assistance in covering her bills. Forced to relinquish her job at a fish factory while she recuperates, she hopes the community will rally behind her during this difficult time.
In the aftermath of the horrific ordeal, Stickney reported the incident to the police.
Although the dog was not destroyed, authorities mandated that the owner microchip the animal and ensure it wears a muzzle whenever it is taken outside. Stickney emphasizes the importance of such precautions, particularly when children are present, expressing her concern over the safety of others.
