Vigilante Commander in Nigeria and Accomplices Arrested for Tricycle Operator's Kidnap and Murder

The Ojoto community vigilante commander and two accomplices have been apprehended by the police in Ogidi Division, Anambra State, for their involvement in the kidnapping and murder of Christian Oluchukwu Onah, a tricycle operator.

Christian, a resident of Oba in Idemili South LGA, Anambra State, originally from Ovoko community in Igbo-Eze South LGA, Enugu State, was reported missing on May 28, 2023, when he failed to return home after his usual day of tricycle transportation business.

Concerned about his whereabouts, his neighbor in Oba raised an alarm and subsequently informed the police.

In an effort to locate him, the tricycle owner employed the services of a security tracker, which eventually led to the arrest of a man found in possession of the missing tricycle.

The Victim

During interrogation, the man confessed to purchasing the tricycle from members of the Ojoto community vigilante group.

When the police detained the vigilante who sold the tricycle, he implicated the vigilante commander as the mastermind behind Christian's abduction and subsequent murder.

The commander allegedly disclosed that they disposed of Christian's body by throwing it into Mmili John Ojoto, a well-known river in the community.

Emmanuel Onah, Christian's father, expressed his anguish over the brutal murder of his young son and called for justice to be served.

He also lamented that the perpetrators have refused to reveal the location where they buried Christian's body.

Seeking a thorough investigation, the grieving father appealed to the police for diligent prosecution and the recovery of his son's remains.

A senior police officer from Ogidi Division confirmed to the Nigerian Tribune that Ojoto community stakeholders are invested in the case.

Furthermore, the police have intensified their efforts to apprehend other individuals mentioned as collaborators by the suspects currently in custody.
