Two teenagers, Curtis Austin and Waylon Hannah, have been indicted by a grand jury for their alleged involvement in a "brutal" double shooting that took place in Baker County last year.
The Baker County Sheriff's Office announced on Monday that Austin and Hannah were indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in relation to the shooting incident on Sawtooth Road in July 2022.
At the time of his arrest in January, Austin was 16 years old, while Hannah was 19. Sheriff Scotty Rhoden had previously described the shooting as an "execution-style murder."
The victims, David "Daniel" Sigers and James Michael "Bo" Thomas, were discovered fatally shot in Macclenny. According to investigators, Sigers and Thomas were close friends and had been living together.
In addition to Austin and Hannah, a third individual was also arrested on charges of accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence.
Sheriff Rhoden stated that the investigation revealed that on July 30, at least two individuals went to the residence on Sawtooth Road, where both Sigers and Thomas were shot and killed. Multiple firearms were taken from the home.
"There appears to have been a prior dispute between one of the victims and at least one of the suspects," Rhoden explained.
Both defendants have been in custody since their arrest in January and are currently being held without bond.
The Baker County Sheriff's Office expressed gratitude for their collaboration with the Office of the State Attorney throughout the investigation and acknowledged the decision made by the grand jury in a Facebook post.
