Justice Served: Gunman Receives 90 Consecutive Life Sentences for Walmart Shooting in El Paso

A white gunman responsible for a racially motivated attack on Hispanic customers at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas has received a sentence of 90 consecutive life terms for the 2019 massacre.

Patrick Crusius, 24, targeted Hispanic shoppers near the U.S.-Mexico border and has been convicted of multiple federal charges, including hate crimes and firearms offenses.

Prosecutors had recommended consecutive life sentences for each of the 90 charges to which Crusius pleaded guilty, after the death penalty was taken off the table.

The gunman, who had traveled over 700 miles from his Dallas-area home, used an AK-style rifle to carry out the shooting inside and outside the store.

Prior to the attack, he had posted a racist message online, expressing concerns about a Hispanic "invasion" in Texas.

Relatives of the victims delivered impact statements during the two-day sentencing process, addressing Crusius directly and highlighting the devastating loss suffered by their families.

Crusius showed little emotion during the statements, but his eyes appeared to well up as victims spoke about the shooting.

However, he ultimately declined to respond or provide an account of his actions. This mass shooting, which claimed the lives of 23 people and left many others injured or traumatized, is one of the deadliest hate crime-related incidents since 2006.

Before the attack, Crusius had expressed support for the construction of a wall and praised then-President Donald Trump's immigration policies in his social media posts.
